What's the difference between SourceTec Messenger and ICQ, AIM, AOL, etc. ? In other words, which unique features does it have?

When install Messenger, we have met "Fail to load xxxx" and can not to continue installing. How to solve it?
It may be caused by the install program has conflicted with other programs running at that time. Please shut down all programs and restart your computer. Then run the setup again. If it still failed, please send details to support@sothink.com .

In the zip file I have downloaded from your site, why I have not found the install program for SourceTec Messenger client?
Actually it's zipped. Before you install the client program, there should be a computer working as the server, which will install the Messenger Server's program. After installation, a "Client" folder will be created automatically under the server program installed directory and be shared as "SrcMsgClient" . You can visit this server computer through "Net-Neighbor" and open this "SrcMsgClient" folder. Run "Setup.exe" and follow the install wizard to install client program. If you are not clear about the address/name of the server computer, please contact your administrator.

When install SourceTec Messenger, I have got a dialog with options: "Modify", "Repair" or "Remove". How to choose?
If you have installed SourceTec Messenger, you will see such a dialog:
Modify: If you want to add or remove components after you have installed SourceTec Messenger, please choose it. The components you have installed in last time will be checked. To add or remove, please click the components' check box .
Repair: In such two conditions, you can choose this option: Have deleted some file by accident and the program can not work properly. The install program will install these files again. Please note: The install program will not recover the corrupted file, if you choose "Repair". To install an update version: you can get to know the upgrade version by its version number or build number.
Remove: To remove SourceTec Messenger from your computer

When I login, why do I get "Too many connections" error and fail to login?
It's because now you are using the trial version of SourceTec Messenger. The trial version only can support 5 users online simultaneously and the evaluation period is 60 days since you install it. Why the Messenger Server can not start ?
Please open "SourceTec Messenger Admin" dialog and switch to Log tab to view the log files. The possible reasons are following:
Fail to connect with database: The computer which the server program to be installed should have the driver program for Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server. The ODBC data source's setting should be correct. Please take reference of "SourceTec Messenger Server Help/Configuration"
Error of TCP/IP: Please use check tools such as IPCONFIG, PING, etc to solve the problem.
Conflict of port: The default port of Messenger Server is used by other programs. Please change the port in "SourceTec Messenger Server Admin" dialog and inform the client users to make change too.

How to set the Messenger to use SQL Server database rather than Microsoft Access?
Please change the Messenger Server's data source to the one used by SQL Server driver program. Please follow the instruction in "SourceTec Messenger Server Help/Configuration".

I do not want the Messenger Server start automatically. How to set it?
If the server program is installed on Windows NT or Windows 2000 computer, please open "Service" administer of system. All the service running on this computer will be listed. Double-clicked "SourceTec Messenger Server" and change the "Startup type" to "Manual"
If the server program is installed on Windows 95/98/ME, please run "Regedit.exe" and open the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\Run". Delete the item "SourceTec Messenger Server".

Why I can not connect with the server?
It may be following reasons:
If get "Fail to login: Authorization failed" error, it refers the User ID or password is not correct.
If get "Fail to login: Your account is disabled" error, it refers your account is disabled by the administrator. The server has not started. Please contact your administrator.
Net configuration is wrong. Please check your messenger's "Net-parameter" setting.
LAN problem. Please contact your administrator.

Is there a size limitation for the message content I can send?
Yes. The largest size is 32,767 characters (32kb). The actual size may smaller than this value because the text format information is included.

I have changed my personal information but why others can not view it?
After you change and save your information, other user should click "Update" button in "User Information" dialog to view your new information.

I have customized my icon, but others still see the old one. How do I get the new one to show?
Other users should update you icon by clicking your name tab on their contact list and choose command "User Icon" --> "Update" to see your new icon.
