I have a .swf file that I need to modify. But it will not work properly after I save the file.

Here is what I do.
Open the existing .swf file.
Then without changing anything, I publish it. Once I do this if you try to run the .swf file I get a white screen that shows the flash game loading up to 100% and then it just stops at 100% screen and never starts the game.

I tried making a simple flash file with a red oval moving across the screen. I publish it and then run it and it works fine. So it doesn't appear that my sothink swf quicker program is broken.

Any ideas?

Yes, simply you cannot open a swf file and then publish it without doing anything.

There are few/many things to do before it:

check if the code is in ActionScript2 or ActionScript3 for example, if it is for Flash Player 9 or 10, if there are code errors that prevents Quicker to compile the project, etc. etc.

Thanks! Not that it really matters I don't guess as I will likely be unable to modify the game myself but how can I tell it it is as2 or as3?

You can look at the code you find inside the project. Just for example:

If you find a lot of "_" before x or y or scale X or scaleY, etc or before other names, you are with AS2.

If you find a lot of "addEventListener" or "new", you are in AS3.
