Utilizing multiple processors and encoding speed improvements
System: 2 x 4 core Xeon (8 processing cores)
Ram: 8 Gigs
Disk Speed: SAS drives / Raid
I just purchased fvec, and It does what I want it to except not being able to take advantage of multiple processors is very disappointing.
Seriously you need to add the ability to:
Use multiple processors
Control how many processors to use
Also, on my testing box(pent III xeon, 2gig ram, fvec encodes some clips without error but other have sync problems.
Fvec doesn’t appear to do any throttling on the encode and it is trying to run at full speed
maxing out the processor and apparently the codec is not keeping up with the frame rate. It is not that hard to add a pause multiplier to slow down the encode to avoid out of sync encodes.
Both systems have the same base install and direct 9, wm10, fvec, quicktime. No other codecs are installed.
I've read a previous response to multiprocessor support, and I wanted to reiterate its importance and lack thereof will hurt the products performance. Encoding a 10meg file and it takes 2minutes on an 8core system is ridiculous -
and most importantly. charging 600$ for a cmd line executable and 40$ for a gui knowing that both generically use the same code is ridiculous... please upgrade the engine, since it is "only running on one cylinder".
Other wise fvec is a good product just keep it up.. thx.
