Would it be possible for Slidingmenu to reference the active URL in one frame to expand and highlight the respective menu item? This would be useful if a visitor accesses a page within the site through another link, for instance in the body of another page, and wanted to still see his position in the overall site structure highlighted in the Slidingmenu.

Sorry, SlidingMenu cannot work in that way. It's quite difficult for a Java applet to do so.

SourceTec Software

But not impossible. http://www.infovation.de/tocmenu_V2/ implements this feature (and for free!). Unfortunately the applet is nowhere near as easy to use. Implement this in your product and I'll buy it! (also, implement a browse feature for the insertion of links, rather than requiring them to be typed manually).
