Was wondering if there were guidelines on selecting bitrate for screen size. Other places on the web have suggested:

320x240 Use 400 kbps bitrate
480x360 Use 700 kbps bitrate
720 x540 Use 1000 kbps bitrate

It seems like file size is directly related to bit rate. I.E, a 50% reduction in bitrate reduces file size by 50%.

Is this correct? How do I best choose bitrate?

Also, I do I pick the Buffer time so that the video will not stop on playback and download more bits? Is there a mathematical formula I can use to target the buffer time to use based on connection speed.

Here is a very high bitrate w low buffer time. Too herky-jerky! ... _full.html

Here is a lower bit rate w 12 sec buffer. Don't Know?? ... _full.html

I enjoy using the SoThink Encoder.

PS: Is there a difference in the FLV file between the Play Progressive option vs the Variable URL option? File size is the same for any selected bit rate. Seems like html code is the only thing different. Is this correct?

Any luck on this? I am thinking about encoding a ton of videos and saving the before and after bit rates that have decent quality to a table so I can reference it for best results when encoding videos
