Why You Need to Focus on Dominating Local SEO

The way people discover and interact with local businesses has changed greatly over recent years. If you want to find a local business today, the chances are your first stop will be Google. This means that featuring in Google’s local results is vitally important for businesses.

Whether people are finding you through Google maps or search queries, you want your business to be listed right at the very top and maximize your exposure to potential customers. To do this, you’ve got to be on top of your Digital, SEO and Google map marketing.

It might seem like a big challenge to get your business to the top of the rankings, but with a few simple tweaks you will find it’s not as difficult as it might seem. Other local businesses just like you are managing it, so there’s nothing stopping you from doing the same.

Create a Google My Business Account

If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to open a Google My Business Account. This allows you to communicate with Google and tell it some of the important information about your business.

When you type in a local search query, you’ll see local businesses in your area with important information, such as the name of the business, the opening hours, contact details, and locations. For Google to list all these details, you’ve first got to make them available and a My Business Account is how you do this.

Local SERP Features

Google is always working on improving the way it presents results and that means the SERPs (search engine results pages) are always evolving.

When you type in a local search query such as “builders near me”, it’s likely you will be presented with a map listing different builders in your area. Underneath the map are the pertinent details of those businesses.

Because Google has streamlined the process so much and made it very easy for people to find local businesses, they very rarely scroll down any further. This means the advantage of featuring in the map results is huge.

Local Keywords

Your Google My Business Account lets Google know you’re open for business, but you’ve got to take more steps if you’re going to dominate the local SERP features.

Build out your website with quality content and center it around local keywords. Google wants to send its users to quality websites which offer people valuable information. If you do the bear minimum, then it’s not going to be enough to reach the top of the rankings.

Local Links

Another way to show Google your credentials as a local business is by getting other local businesses to link to you. Links from other websites help show Google that your site is authoritative and worthy of ranking high in the SERPs.

The more quality links you can get from local businesses, the more likely Google is to see you as a trustworthy local business and feature you in its local SERP features.
