I'm trying to edit a SWF file. I open it, I click on a layer and delete it. When I try to save it, I get: ERROR: anela.as, Line 8: Syntax error. If I save it anyway, the saved file is messed up. The original works.
In anela.as file, there is "public var ????". Those ???? should be letters but I don't know which (non english).

What can I do?

When you edit a swf file you import it with a reverse engineering. The compiler then could change something or not consider some parts as names in public var like in your case. It is not so immediate importing and saving it again.

You need before to check all scripts looking for errors and make it compatible. You need now to see where that anela.as is involved in your script and the name of called functions/variables.

I read every .as file but couldn't find anything. Actually, it was public var ????_88.

I couldn't find anela or 88 from any of them. 88 was only found from anela.as Troublesome.

Send me your swf file at info@papermakeit.com and I'll try to look at it this evening.

I can't send it, legal matters.

However, I think it has something to do with foreign letters in the code. Years ago, I used SWF Quicker trial on my home computer (which later gave me the idea to use it at work) and chinese letters messed up things. Is there any way to make them work on a work computer?

if the issue is due to some missing font, then you can simply replace the font with another included in your local machine.
